Darren Quigley was UCD's hero with a terrific penalty save to deprive Derry of regaining the leadership of the Premier Division table.

UCD played five across midfield as they came to contain Derry, who had won all nine previous league games at the Brandywell this season.

When Derry did break through, U21 international Quigley was there to thwart them, most notably on 47 minutes when he pushed away a Stephen O’Flynn spot kick after Conor Kenna had fouled Paddy McCourt.

Quigley had also made a brilliant save in the first half from Darren Kelly, following Kevin Derry's corner.
