Huth completes move

Chelsea have confirmed the sale of Germany defender Robert Huth to Middlesbrough.

Boro finally completed the deal for a fee of around £6m (€8.9m) and the 22-year-old has passed a medical and agreed personal terms.

Huth’s move was put in doubt because of the long-running saga of England left-back Ashley Cole’s switch to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon was heavily involved in the Cole saga on the final day but eventually signed the documents to seal Huth’s departure.

The deal, which took William Gallas to the Emirates Stadium, was finally agreed just before the midnight deadline on Thursday.

Middlesbrough had wanted to unveil Huth along with on-loan Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate yesterday but Chelsea delayed the paperwork to dash their plans.

Huth’s move was successful at the second time of asking as Boro had tried to sign the centre-back in July. However, the player failed a medical and returned to the champions.
