The transfer of the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker was not completed in time for Anelka to make his debut this afternoon, so it will be left to Kevin Davies and Henrik Pedersen to lead the line for the visitors.

Quinton Fortune failed a late fitness test on an ankle problem. Stelios Giannakopoulos came into midfield.

Charlton have yet to win under new boss Iain Dowie, and were thumped 3-0 by Manchester United here on Wednesday night.

Djimi Traore returned to the defence following a one-game ban, while midfielder Andy Reid was fit again from a back problem.

Irish international Matt Holland has dropped to the bench.
