Fiorentina still want Champions League

Fiorentina owner Diego della Valle has welcomed the final sentence in the Italian match-fixing trial as a step in the right direction, but promised to fight on until “justice” is done.

Fiorentina were relegated to Serie B by the original verdict, but on Tuesday they were reinstated back to the top flight, although they will begin the 2006-07 season with a 19-point deduction.

Della Valle insists that is not the end of the matter, however.

“We won a place in the Champions League on the pitch and we will keep going until they give it back to us,” he told Rai television.

“We maintain that we have done nothing wrong and we will explore all avenues which lead to justice.”

Della Valle saw his four-year ban for his involvement in the scandal reduced by three months.
