More misery for lowly Waterford
Longford Town 3 Waterford United 0
Dead ball specialist Davy Byrne scored twice inside the final four minutes to put the gloss on a second win in four days for a resurgent Longford side tonight.
Midfielder Byrne curled home a delightful free-kick to finally kill off the Blues’ challenge on 86 minutes after Pat Flynn fouled Martin Reilly.
Chris Deans then pulled down Gary Cronin inside the area in the final minute and Byrne drove home the spot kick.
Alan Kirby had given Town the lead when scoring for the second time in four days.
As with his opener in the 2-0 defeat of St. Pat’s on Wednesday, Kirby’s finish was coolness personified as he ended a flowing move on 36 minutes.
John Martin’s super run down the right resulted in a perfect cross to the back post where Dessie Baker’s cushioned header set up Kirby who side-footed home.

Finn Harps 2 (Minnock 17, Gethins 90) Athlone Town 0 (Sheridan s.o 44).
