Leeds sign Livermore

Leeds have completed the signing of midfielder David Livermore from Millwall on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old former Lions captain allayed any doubts as to his long-term fitness, which last year cost him a move to Southampton, by passing a stringent two-day medical to become Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell’s second summer signing.

Blackwell, who drafted in French winger Sebastien Carole from Brighton earlier this month, is believed to have paid £400,000 (€600,000) for the former Arsenal trainee, who he first showed an interest in last summer.

“I’m not sure why the move (to Leeds) didn’t come off last year,” he said. “I think the price Millwall were looking for was too much.

“There were a few other clubs interested and I nearly went to Southampton, but the medical turned into a disaster.”

Scans at the time revealed a problem with Livermore’s knee and Southampton were reluctant to go ahead with the deal.

Livermore added: “There’s been some big changes here at Leeds after they got relegated and a lot of players have come and gone. It takes time to rebuild.

“I watched the play-off final and Watford did well, fair play to them, but I’ve been talking to the lads and it’s obvious that it still hurts a lot and they want to put it right this season.

“They are a Premiership club, playing in the Championship.”
