Kirkland set to join Wigan

Wigan were today expected to confirm the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland on loan.

The 25-year-old has been training with the Latics’ squad and should be unveiled by manager Paul Jewell shortly.

Kirkland spent last season on loan at West Brom but lost his place because of injury and was unable to force his way past Tomasz Kuszczak on his return.

He cost Liverpool £6m (€8.7m) when he joined from Coventry in August 2001.
