Fenlon keeps the faith for Intertoto Cup tie
Shelbourne manager Pat Fenlon will persist with his usual European formation as the Dublin side battle to preserve their European adventure.
The Eircom League side go into tomorrow’s Intertoto Cup second round second leg match against Odense at Tolka Park trailing 3-0 – a hat-trick of Morten Fevang proving decisive a week ago.
And Fenlon said: “Obviously being three goals down at half-time in this tie, it’s up to us to come out of the traps chasing this game.
“With Jason Byrne suspended and Gary O’Neill injured we really only have Glen Crowe left to play up front.
“We’ll have Alan Moore playing in the hole just behind him so it is basically the same formation we have used before.
“But I can promise our supporters we will be in a much more adventurous and attacking mode than we might have been before.
“All our midfield players are very attack-minded and are capable of creating and scoring goals and that will be their instructions leaving the dressing room before the game.”
Bobby Ryan or Richie Baker will come in on the right wing, while Colin Hawkins has recovered from injury to take his place in the centre of defence.
Fenlon added on his club’s official website, www.shelbournefc.ie: “We gave them too much room in the first game and with them being that bit more phyisically stronger and more athletic, it’s crucial that we get really tight on them when they have the ball.
“Even before last week we knew that they liked to sit back a bit and then break on the counter-attack, so we’re just going to have to make sure that we make our chances count and that we don’t leave ourselves open for them to punish any mistakes or slip-ups.”
