Cork unveil two new signings

Cork City have signed Brian O’Callaghan from Notts County and Cathal Lordan from Ipswich Town for the remainder of the 2006 season.

“Brian is still a very young lad, but has built up massive experience since his early days at underage international level,” said Cork manager Damien Richardson. “Cork City will have a solid defender to add to our squad, we welcome Brian to the club and are looking forward to seeing him in the city jersey.

“Cathal is definitely a player for the future and even though he is only 19 years of age, he has already had a great deal of experience with various cross-channel clubs.

“I am sure that he will bring a further dimension to Cork City Football Club.”

Brian O’Callaghan has represented the Republic of Ireland at U15 through to U21 level and was part of the Republic of Ireland U16 team that won the European Championships.

“I am delighted to be joining the eircom League Champions and there is a real sense of excitement around the club with the Champions League games coming up,” said O’Callaghan. “I really am excited about joining City.”

Cathal Lordan started his playing days at a young age in Ballincollig with Lakewood. He spent three years at Ipswich with manager Joe Royle, notching up an FA Youth winners medal along the way.

“It’s great to be playing with the champions and I am really looking forward to the Champions League campaign,” he said today.

“I welcome both Brian and Cathal to the club and I know that they will receive a warm Cork welcome from the Rebel Army supporters,” said club chairman Brian Lennox today.
