Capello close to Real move
Fabio Capello is expected to take over the coaching reins of Real Madrid in the coming hours.
New president Ramon Calderon, speaking on Sky Sports News, said the former Juventus coach âwill join the club todayâ.
Capello quit as Juve coach yesterday.
Real Madrid confirmed the news on their website, announcing that Capello is due to be officially presented as the clubâs new coach tomorrow.
A statement read: âFabio Capello will be the next coach of Real Madrid. It is predicted that on Thursday at 12:00 hours at the Santiago Bernabeu he will be presented/displayed before the media.â
This is Capelloâs second stint in charge of Real, having also coached the club for one season in 1996/97 when he led them to the Primera Liga title.
Calderon added: âHe will be here for three years. He is a winner, and this is very important at this club after three years without a title.â
The new president then outlined his determination to fulfil his election pledges and bring Chelsea winger Arjen Robben, AC Milan playmaker Kaka and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas to the Bernabeu.
He said: âWe are trying to bring the three of them â (sporting director) Pedja Mijatovic is in charge of it.
âHe said everything will be okay, and we are getting in touch with the clubs.
âThe three currently have contracts at their respective clubs, and we need to get in touch with them.â
