Rovers sign second striker in single day

Blackburn have signed striker Jason Roberts from Wigan on a four-year deal.

Roberts becomes the second signing of the day for Rovers who earlier unveiled Francis Jeffers, a free transfer on a two-year deal from Charlton.

28-year-old Roberts scored 14 goals last season despite the loss of strike partner Nathan Ellington who was sold to West Brom.

Roberts revealed he was likely to leave the JJB Stadium at the start of June when he insisted he had rejected a contract offer stating his treatment had been “disrespectful” and he was linked with a move to Turkey with Besiktas.

However, Wigan chairman Dave Whelan later insisted no contract had even been offered to the former West Brom man.
