Cork City have snapped up former Notts County defender Brian O’Callaghan on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old Limerick man has joined the League champions on a six-month contract and will bolster Cork’s defence.

Cork manager Damien Richardson said: “He will give us plenty of cover as he can play anywhere in defence and he has plenty of experience.

“He is a top player and we’ve a lot of games coming up and he will ensure we can rotate the squad a bit more than we have been.”

O’Callaghan – who almost joined Bohemians in 2004 – is also eligible for Cork’s Champions League tie against Apollon Limassol of Cyprus next week.
