Australians deny Houllier agreement
The Australian FA have denied reports former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has signed up to replace Guus Hiddink as Australia coach.
However, Football Federation Australia (FFA) do admit they are in negotiations with Houllier, who led Lyon to the French title last season.
“Contrary to media reports, the FFA has not signed an agreement with Gerard Houllier for the position of head coach of the Socceroos,” said a statement on the FFA website.
“Talks regarding the Australian head coach position are continuing with a number of candidates, including Gerard Houllier.”
Dutchman Hiddink left the job having led the Australians into the second round of the World Cup for the first time.
He will take charge of Russia before the start of qualifying for the 2008 European Championships.
