Johnson close to Feyenoord loan

Chelsea defender Glen Johnson is close to a loan move to Feyenoord, according to one of the Dutch club’s directors.

The 21-year-old has visited their De Kuip stadium to look at the facilities and meet head coach Erwin Koeman, and is thought to have been pleased with what he saw.

“The player was deeply impressed by the stadium, he looked around the locker rooms and he visited the city,” Feyenoord director Chris Woerts told AD Sportwereld.

“He has spoken with coach Erwin Koeman, who came back to Rotterdam from his holiday home especially to meet him.”

Johnson, who has won five England caps, was the first player to be bought by Chelsea after Russian businessman Roman Abramovich took over the club in 2003.

The right-back was signed from West Ham United by then manager Claudio Ranieri but has rarely featured under current boss Jose Mourinho, who brought in Portugal international Paulo Ferreira the following summer as his first-choice right-back.

Johnson has also had interest from Championship side Southampton.
