Derry City winger Pat McCourt has been named the eircom/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Player of the Month for May.

The 22-year-old played a central role in ensuring the Candystripes progress to the next round of both the eircom League and the FAI Cups, and helped the Northern side remain in contention at the top of the eircom premier division.

McCourt was ever present as Derry won four and drew one of their five games, beating Waterford United and Cork City in the League, Longford Town in the League Cup and Blarney United in the FAI Cup.

It is the first time that McCourt has won a Player of the Month award in what is his second season in the eircom League.
