Redknapp keeps eye on Petrov

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has revealed Stilian Petrov is a player he is interested in signing.

Reports suggest he has flown to Tel Aviv for talks with millionaire backer Alexandre Gaydamak about his budget.

Petrov submitted an official transfer request towards the end of last season, which was rejected by Celtic.

Redknapp told the Scottish Sun: “I like Petrov, he is obviously a top player and I am aware of the situation.

“But I‘m not going to say anything else at the moment, because he is one of Gordon Strachan‘s main players.”

However, the Pompey boss appears to have cooled his interest in John Hartson.

His future is in doubt after it emerged Celtic accepted a £500,000 (€727,081) bid from West Brom for the striker who had intended to see out the remaining year of his contract.

Redknapp added: “We were interested in big John at the start of the year but I couldn‘t say something will definitely happen this time.”

Meanwhile, Quinton Fortune could find out today if Celtic are willing to make him an offer after undergoing a medical.

His agent Francis Martin told the Scottish Express: “Nothing will really change until Monday at the earliest.

“Peter Lawwell [chief executive] spoke to me on Friday and told me that the club hadn‘t got all the results back from Quinton‘s medical yet.

“The ones that had come back were fine but, for one reason or another, they were still waiting on the rest.

“Celtic obviously want to check everything is okay first before they decide if they want to make a formal offer to the player.”
