Saints march on with win at Malahide
Malahide United 0 St Patrick’s Athletic 2
First half goals from Mark Quigley and Trevor Molloy ended 10-man Malahide’s cup hopes at Gannon Park as St Pat's eased into the third round.
Saints started well and Stephen Brennan and Paul Keegan set up Quigley to blast home the opener on nine minutes.
Poor defending gifted Saints’ their second goal on 35 minutes with Anto Murphy picking out Molloy who shot home.
In between, Malahide midfielder Ray Whelehan had twice brought good saves from Barry Ryan.
The LSL side’s hopes faded further on 39 minutes when right-back Mark Cromwell was sent off for his second reckless tackle of the afternoon.
St Pat’s enjoyed all the possession in the second half with Molloy having a goal disallowed for offside while Mark Rutherford brought a decent save out of Colin Blanche.
Malahide’s Adam Shehabbadin did have the ball in the St Pat’s net on 77 minutes but it was also ruled out for offside.
