Declan O’Brien scored a hat-trick as Drogheda finally found their goal touch to move back top of the Premier Division table tonight.

A fortuitous penalty, awarded for a dubious foul by Blues' skipper Chris Deans on Graham Gartland, gifted O’Brien the opener on 14 minutes.

O’Brien doubled the lead on 29 minutes when cutting the ball home after Shane Barrett intercepted a poor pass to surge through the Blues defence.

O’Brien fluffed the chance of his hat-trick on 41 minutes before Shane Robinson also wasted a glorious opening in first half stoppage time.

Fyfe made a good save from Robinson while Fahey headed wide before Drogheda scored again on 69 minutes. Substitute Sami Ristila played O’Brien through on goal and he calmly shot past Fyfe to complete his treble.

Glen Fitzpatrick, who replaced O’Brien, completed the rout in stoppage time by adding the fourth with a header from Fahey’s cross.
