Malpas succeeds Butcher at Motherwell

Motherwell have moved quickly to replace Terry Butcher by appointing Maurice Malpas as their new manager.

The former Dundee United and Scotland defender succeeds the Englishman, who was unveiled earlier today as the new coach of Sydney FC.

Malpas, who was assistant manager alongside Butcher for the last three years, said: “I am delighted to accept the job and be at the helm of a great club.

“We have shown over the last few years that we can compete successfully against the best clubs in Scotland and we can build on what we have achieved.

“Working with Terry was great and we had a tremendous relationship. I wish him all the best and I am looking forward to running my own show.”
