Scottish Cup final goes to penalties

Hearts 1 Gretna 1 (after extra time)

Gretna’s sensational story continued at Hampden Park as they came from behind to take Hearts to a penalty shoot-out in the Tennent’s Scottish Cup final.

The Bell’s Second Division champions’ journey, which has seen them qualify for the UEFA Cup next season, looked to be over at half-time when Rudi Skacel gave Hearts a 39th-minute lead.

But Robbie Neilson denied David Graham a certain equaliser with a fine saving tackle before Ryan McGuffie forced the ball past Craig Gordon after his penalty had been saved.

That set up 30 more dramatic minutes of extra time and then penalties.

But Hearts playmaker Paul Hartley was dismissed for a second caution in the dying moments of extra time.
