City backroom shuffle

Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce has reshuffled his backroom staff, with former Southampton boss Steve Wigley stepping up to first-team coach.

Wigley, who managed Saints from August to December 2004, had been reserve-team boss last season.

Frankie Bunn takes over responsibility for the Blues’ second string.

Pearce told his club’s official website www.mcfc.co.uk: “Steve has spent a season with us and has done some sterling work as reserve team manager - particularly his bringing through young talent such as Micah Richards and also developing Stephen Ireland and Ishmael Miller. I believe he is ready for the role of first-team coach.”

Derek Fazackerley moves from fist-team coach to a scouting role.
