Derry go top after draw
St Patrick’s Athletic 1 Derry City 1
St Patrick’s maintained their bright start to the season as they came from behind to earn a point, though it was a result that was still enough to put Derry top of the table - overnight at least.
Derry had the dream start of the lead after five minutes when Barry Molloy cracked home a shot from the edge of the box.
Trevor Molloy hit the woodwork within a minute at the other end in a lively first half.
Saints continued to play well into the second half and were rewarded on 56 minutes when Paul Keegan punished a mistake by Derry keeper David Forde who fumbled Molloy’s cross to equalise.
Molloy hit the woodwork again before Derry’s Molloy headed off the line from Darragh Maguire as the Candystripes held on for their point.
