UEFA chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson is relishing a return to Glasgow next year after a successful UEFA Cup final in Eindhoven.

Middlesbrough suffered a 4-0 defeat by Sevilla last night in the Philips Stadion in the Dutch city.

Next year, the UEFA Cup final will be played at Hampden Park, five years after the Champions League showpiece was staged at Scotland’s national stadium.

Hampden has previously hosted European Cup finals in 1976 and 1960 but will be staging the UEFA Cup final for the first time.

Olsson said: “The UEFA Cup has moved on a long way from those early pioneer days of European football, and so have the grounds and the stadia that host the matches.

“Most importantly, football is made up of memories, of passion and of emotion, and we know that in coming to Scotland and to Glasgow we will get this in abundance.”
