Koeman lands PSV role

Ronald Koeman has agreed atwo-year deal as the new coach of Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven.

The announcement came on Monday evening at a press conference in Lisbon, in which Koeman spoke of his delight at taking the reins from Guus Hiddink, who has left the post to take charge of the Russian national team.

“This is fantastic, I feel honoured to come and work as a successor to Guus Hiddink at PSV, at a club where I have really good and wonderful memories,” the former Eindhoven player said.

“This is the next step in my coaching career. I am happy and look forward to this formidable challenge.”

Earlier on Monday, Koeman had resigned as coach of Portuguese club Benfica after just a year in charge.

Despite reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Benfica’s domestic season had been a disappointment with the club only managing a third-placed finish and failing to defend their SuperLiga title.

Koeman will travel to Eindhoven later in the week, where he will be officially unveiled in a press conference at the Philips Stadion.
