Sadler signs new Blues deal

Birmingham’s young defender Mat Sadler has signed a new two-year contract at St Andrews after establishing himself in the first team in the second half of this season.

Sadler made his Premiership debut as a 17-year-old but a combination of injuries and a loss of form kept the Birmingham-born left-back on the sidelines and in the reserves until he played against Reading in the FA Cup in February.

The 21-year-old has made eight first-team appearances in total this season, making the left-back position his own.

Sadler said: “I am just happy to get it sorted out.”

He added on club website www.bcfc.com: “It was looking a bit sketchy a couple of months ago whether I would actually be offered a contract.

“So for this to get sorted for another two years, I am really delighted.”
