Valencia slip-up hands crown to Barca
Barcelona were tonight crowned Primera Liga champions following second-placed Valencia’s defeat at Real Mallorca.
The Catalans went into their match at Celta Vigo knowing a win would see them retain the crown they won last season but the result was deemed irrelevant for the visitors after Los Che crashed to a surprise 2-1 loss in Palma.
Juan Arango put relegation-threatened Mallorca ahead in the ninth minute and although Miguel Angel Angulo equalised seven minutes later, Cristiano Doni netted the winner for the hosts at the start of the second half.
Valencia started the day eight points adrift of Barca and now have just two games remaining.
