Bohs capture dramatic win in Dublin derby
Dublin City 1 Bohemians 2
Though technically away, Bohs felt right at home tonight as they took a seventh minute lead and never looked back as Vikings finished with nine men.
Gary Rogers did well to parry a shot when Tony Grant was through one-on-one with him. But the ball came back to Grant who squared it for Stephen Ward to fire home after just seven minutes.
Vikings might have been level a minute later but David Freeman saw his shot come back off a post.
Fergal Harkin hit a post at the other end before Bohs extended their lead on 32 minutes when Barry Ferguson headed home Des Byrne’s free-kick.
Bohs were rampant by now, and Ward had a goal disallowed before hitting post with Grant also having a goal ruled out for offside.
Damien Brennan gave Vikings hope however, with a 30-yard strike on 58 minutes.
But the game was up for Dermot Keely’s side when midfielder Paul Crowley was sent off ten minutes later for a second booking.
Defender Gavin McDonnell also saw red four minutes into stoppage time for a lunge on Ward.
