Davis could make quick return
Aston Villa are optimistic midfielder Steven Davis will be able to return to action before the end of the season.
The Northern Ireland international suffered a hamstring injury in last Sunday’s derby win over Birmingham and was initially ruled out of the remainder of the campaign by manager David O’Leary.
But the 21-year-old’s injury is not as serious as first feared and he could play a part in the finale to a campaign in which he is a leading contender to be the club’s player of the year.
Villa number two Roy Aitken said: “Initially we feared the worst, that it might be a pulled hamstring, but it looks like it is only a strain.
“We’re going to get it looked at now it has settled down and I don’t think he’ll be out for the season.”
Davis’ international and Villa team-mate Aaron Hughes is a major doubt for next Tuesday’s home clash with Manchester City after suffering a knee injury in the 3-2 reversal at Wigan in midweek.
