Bowyer banned for speeding

Ex-England footballer Lee Bowyer was today banned from driving for six weeks after admitting speeding at nearly 100mph.

The Newcastle United midfielder was caught by an unmarked police car driving his silver Porsche 911 at 99mph on the southbound A1 near Morpeth, Northumberland, in July last year.

Magitrates sitting in Hexham also fined the footballer £650 and ordered him to pay £100 court costs.

Margaret Kynoch-MacDonald, chair of the bench, told Bowyer: “Because this is the second time you have been excessively speeding in the past three years, we ban you from driving for 42 days.”
