Middlesbrough defender Franck Queudrue is a doubt for Sunday’s Barclays Premiership clash with Newcastle after last night’s heroic UEFA Cup fightback against Basle.

The Frenchman, who also suffered a head injury, was substituted after aggravating a dead leg, and he is likely to be joined on the sidelines by 18-year-old Lee Cattermole (ankle), who missed out against the Swiss side.

Manager Steve McClaren will take a head count before naming his squad, but Emanuel Pogatetz (facial fractures) and Gaizka Mendieta (fractured metatarsal) are out for the season.

Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Parnaby, Taylor, Southgate, Riggott, Ehiogu, Davies, Bates, Boateng, Doriva, Downing, Parlour, Rochemback, Morrison, Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Viduka, Maccarone.
