Linfield rout Glentoran
Linfield 6 Glentoran 0
Holders Linfield earned a home tie with Drogheda United in the semi-finals of the Setanta Sports Cup as David Jeffrey’s side blew ten-man Glentoran away at Windsor Park.
Blues effectively killed off Glens’ tenuous hopes of reaching the last four by taking a 25th minutes lead from Andy Hunter’s penalty after Darren Lockhart took down Paul McAreavey inside the box.
It got worse for Glens on 40 minutes when full-back Mark Glendinning was shown a straight red card for stamping.
Peter Thompson then rubbed Glens’ noses in it within a minute with Blues’ second goal.
McAreavey made it 3-0 ten minutes into the second half before William Murphy got in on the scoring act on 63 minutes.
McAreavey added his second and Blues’ fifth nine minutes from time with Thompson completing the rout four minutes later.
