Bolton close to Jaaskelainen deal

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed he expects Jussi Jaaskelainen to sign a new contract by the beginning of next week at the latest.

The Trotters have been in talks with their long-serving ‘keeper for almost 12 months, during which time there have been numerous reports the 30-year-old was set to move elsewhere.

However, it appears Allardyce’s patience is about to pay off as the Finland international prepared to extend his stay at the Reebok Stadium, having initially joined Bolton as an unknown from VPS Vaasa in 1997.

“The deal with Jussi is very close now,” said Allardyce.

“I would have thought it will be done by the back end of this week or the beginning of next at the latest.

“Jussi is one of the players whose value has escalated by being here, and they know it, which makes negotiations very difficult.

“We have got on with it the best we can but this has been the longest of the lot.”

Meanwhile, Allardyce also confirmed Israel international Idan Tal has signed a pre-contract agreement with Bolton and will join the club on July 1.

The 31-year-old midfielder has agreed a three-year contract to return to the Premiership after previously spending two seasons with Everton.
