Allardyce wants Englishman for England job

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce will be upset if the Football Association overlook the English contenders to succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Swede Eriksson will be replaced as England coach after this summer’s World Cup in Germany.

Other foreign coaches including Guus Hiddink and Luiz Felipe Scolari are believed to be in the frame.

But Allardyce told Daily Star Sunday: “The Sven decision was right at the time but we would be let down if us English managers were overlooked.

“I would feel like everyone else in this country, upset if we were overlooked. There is a public demand for it and that should be taken into account.

“If I finish with Bolton in fourth spot in the Premiership shouldn’t I be promoted to be the next England manager? I would hope the answer was ‘yes’.”
