They were ahead seconds before the break with a Phil Neville own goal and made it two two minutes after the restart via a Luis Garcia chip.

Everton pulled one back through Tim Cahill before being reduced to 10 men themselves on 72 minutes when substitute Andy van der Meyde was red-carded. Harry Kewell’s 25-yard cracker with six minutes left settled the issue.
