Mark Leech wasted a glorious late chance to earn a dominant Drogheda a win they fully deserved from this, at times, shockingly one-sided clash at Shamrock Park.

Drogheda dominated this battle of the respective cup holders but could find no way to goal.

Glen Fitzpatrick and Shane Barrett were a constant thorn in Ports' side but wasted several chances each before substitute Leech contrived to shoot wide from Paul Keegan’s cross with four minutes remaining.

Ports had just one clearcut chance in the whole game with Dan Connor coming to Drogheda’s rescue with a terrific stop from john Convery.
