Robbo wary of ever-increasing foreign legion
West Brom manager Bryan Robson has called for a limit on the number of overseas players in the English game.
The former England captain, who won 90 caps, believes the influx of players from abroad is hampering the development of home-grown talent in the Premiership and is potentially damaging to the national team.
Robson told the Daily Mail: “If it continues the way it is, I don’t think we will see so many English players coming through.
“Tony Adams mentioned there were only 25 home-qualified players who started on the first weekend of the season. Eight of those were here at West Brom.
“While at first-team level it doesn’t bother me so much, there is a real concern in my mind about clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea going foreign at academy level.
“I hope the FA or Premier League step in. I believe each club should be maybe allowed three or four young foreign lads.”
