Newcastle captain Alan Shearer will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness ahead of tomorrow evening’s Barclays Premiership clash with Everton.

The 35-year-old has missed the last two games with a calf problem and remains a major doubt, while Kieron Dyer and Titus Bramble (both hamstring) are definitely out and could be for up to three weeks.
