Bremen shock Italian giants Juve

Johan Micoud completed a remarkable comeback with an injury-time goal as Werder Bremen claimed a 3-2 win over Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The hosts had taken a half-time lead through Christian Schulz before Juventus levelled through Pavel Nedved and David Trezeguet looked to have won the game.

Tim Borowski levelled before Micoud’s intervention gave the Germans the advantage for the return leg.

Bremen made the breakthrough in the 39th minute with Schulz’ close-range strike.

Trezeguet should have done better when he beat the offside trap but he put his shot wide without testing Tim Wiese.

However, Nedved converted Patrick Vieira’s cross in the 74th minute and Trezeguet atoned for his earlier miss when his 12-yard header put Juve ahead eight minutes later.

The lead lasted just five minutes with Borowski scoring for the hosts and Bremen completed the comeback with the winner from Micoud who bundled the ball over the line in injury time.

Rangers kept their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League alive when they twice fought back from a goal down to earn an unlikely draw against Villarreal at Ibrox.

Juan Riquelme’s early penalty was cancelled out by Peter Lovenkrands and Diego Forlan appeared to have bagged the winner for Villarreal.

However, there was a twist still to come when an own-goal from Juan Manuel Pena threw the Scottish champions a lifeline with just eight minutes to go.

Inter Milan came from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw with Ajax.

The Amsterdam team took a 16th-minute lead through Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s header from Mauro Rosales’ right-wing cross.

Ajax doubled their lead four minutes later when Rosales converted from close range.

Dejan Stankovic halved Ajax’s lead four minutes after the restart when he hit a 12-yard shot into the top left of the goal before Julio Cruz coolly slot home to level matters with four minutes to go.
