Four-goal Zurawski makes it a rout for Celtic
FT Dunfermline 1 Celtic 8
Maciej Zurawski hit the net four times as Celtic ominously hit Dunfermline for eight goals to march 13 points clear of Hearts at the top of the Bank of Scotland Premier League.
Artur Boruc cost the Hoops the lead as his mistake allowed Andy Tod to cancel out Stilian Petrov’s early opener.
But John Hartson put Celtic ahead again before Old Firm match-winner Zurawski took charge with an emphatic treble.
The champions-elect then continued to steamroll their CIS Insurance Cup final opponents with Shaun Maloney hitting the net with a stunning volley and skipper Neil Lennon grabbing a rare goal.
Zurawski then made Celtic the first team to score eight goals in the SPL which took his season’s tally to 15, with eight in seven games.
Young again went agonisingly close in the 72nd minute but he sent the ball flying past the post from 11 yards.
But Shaun Maloney punished him empathetically in the 74th minute when he sent a brilliant bicycle kick flying past Halliwell from Zurawski’s cross.
But the biggest cheer of the day came in the 81st minute when Lennon fired a rare goal into the bottom corner, from just outside the box.
Zurawski made it eight with two minutes later after seizing on a long ball to fire the ball low past the shell-shocked ‘keeper.
