Atkinson makes Posh return

Ron Atkinson is to continue his return to football at Peterborough after ending his alliance with Swindon.

The former Manchester United manager is filming a TV documentary on running a lower-league club and will also be available to offer advice to caretaker boss Steve Bleasdale, who is in charge at London Road following Mark Wright’s sacking last week.

Owner Barry Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: “I spoke to Ron last week and he’s as excited about the project as I am. I don’t know what went wrong at Swindon, but I am more than happy to have him around the place as he has a wealth of experience in many areas.

“He will not in any way shape or form interfere with anything Steve Bleasdale does, but Steve will be able to consult with him if he chooses.

“Ron is employed by Sky Television to do a documentary, he is not employed by Peterborough United at all. In fact we get £100,000 (€146,000) for agreeing to do the show.”

The show marks a return to television for the 66-year-old pundit who was sacked by ITV after making racist remarks after a Champions League tie two years ago.

Fry has also confirmed that Bleasdale will stay in charge until the end of the season following Wright’s dismissal for gross misconduct.
