Gamble commits to Cork City
Joe Gamble has devoted his future to Cork City after signing a new two-year extension to his contract to keep him at the league champions to the end of the 2008 season.
The 24 year-old former Reading and Barnet midfield star put pen to paper last night on a new deal saying that it was a relatively easy decision to commit himself to the Leesiders for the next three years.
āI am staying here for the right reasons and while I had to seek one or two re-assurances from the manager, Damien Richardson about where the club is going, I am delighted to have signed a new two-year extension,ā said the Togher man.
āItās not just all about the football because I have interests outside of the game too. Some people seem to think that as a professional footballer you can have no life outside of the game but I had enough of that in England where I used to live like a monk,ā said Joe of his time at Reading and out on loan at Barnet and Crawley Town.
āIām far more settled here living back in Cork and close to my family and friends and I think thatās reflected in my football because I know I am playing the best of my career.ā
āI suppose retaining the league is the priority again but we are an ambitious club and we canāt rule out a crack at the double again. We want to be the best team in the country again this season and to win back-to-back league titles would be the mark of real champions,ā he added.
