Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer could return to the starting line-up for tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth-round trip to Coventry with deputy Brad Jones struggling.

Jones is battling against a groin injury, which may let his fellow Australian back into the team after he withdrew a transfer request submitted earlier this month.

James Morrison (hip) and Ray Parlour (ankle) are definitely out, but Gaizka Mendieta has recovered from a calf problem and Chris Riggott, Matthew Bates and Mark Viduka have all shaken off knocks picked up in last Saturday’s 3-2 Barclays Premiership defeat by Wigan.

Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Jones, Knight, Parnaby, Pogatetz, Taylor, Southgate, Riggott, Ehiogu, Bates, Doriva, Downing, Mendieta, Rochemback, Johnson, Cattermole, Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Viduka, Maccarone.
