Cole poised to extend City stay

Andy Cole is set to sign a new one-year contract with Manchester City.

The Blues’ 34-year-old former Manchester United forward has agreed terms for the new deal which is simply awaiting his signature, according to manager Stuart Pearce.

Cole, a surprise signing last year, has vindicated Pearce’s judgment to the extent that he is now thought worthy of another 12 months.

“The contract has been agreed with his agent, and all it needs is his signature,” Pearce told the Daily Express.

“Andy has been a good man to have around this place. He has done well for us; he is a good influence on the young players and he wants to stay at this club for another season.”

Pearce is also prepared to foster Cole’s ambition to emulate his manager by moving from playing into coaching one day.

“He is hoping to go into coaching – and if he wants to do any work with the senior players here then I’m happy to let him do it,” said the City boss.

“The same applies to any of my senior players. People gave me a leg-up when I started coaching, and I’m happy to do the same.”
