Chief scout Chapman to retire

Bolton’s chief scout Jack Chapman is to retire at the end of this month.

Chapman, 76, was responsible for bringing players like Jay-Jay Okocha, Fernando Hierro and Youri Djorkaeff to the Reebok Stadium.

Manager Sam Allardyce said: “When people talk about the greats who have represented this club Jack Chapman should be up there with them.

“He has been the most integral person during my six years here.

“He is responsible for discovering the many players who have turned this club into a top-six team in the Barclays Premiership and one envied across Europe.

“To fill Jack’s shoes is going to be very difficult. He is by far the best in the business.”
