Curbishley: Sven could stay
Alan Curbishley believes Sven-Goran Eriksson is likely to remain as England manager beyond the World Cup because the Football Association has “no Plan B”.
The Charlton boss also thinks if the Swede did depart in the summer, the FA could again appoint a foreign coach rather than a less-experienced Englishman.
Eriksson told an undercover News of the World reporter that he was willing to leave his contract two years early after this summer’s finals in Germany – for the right price – and was indiscreet about some senior international players.
Curbishley said in his Daily Express column: “Sven hasn’t done himself any favours with his comments, made to people he had only just met.
“But perhaps he is so sure of his position now that he can make these observations, safe in the knowledge that England go into the World Cup finals with a genuine chance of winning them.
“And if they do, it would not surprise me to see him stay in the job. He has been around in football long enough to know you can get away with anything so long as you are successful,” he said.
