Birmingham’s on-loan midfielder Jiri Jarosik has turned down the chance to join Russian club Zenit St Petersburg.

Zenit coach Vlastimil Petrzela was hoping to sign the Chelsea player during the January transfer window.

But the midfielder, who played for CSKA Moscow before moving to Stamford Bridge, is keen to help Birmingham in their battle to stay in the Premiership.

Jarosik’s agent Viktor Kolar said: “The decision depended on Jiri but he has decided to stay with Birmingham.”

Jarosik is on a season-long loan with Blues and has started to make more of an impact in recent weeks. He is currently the club’s leading scorer with five goals.

Meanwhile, City’s Finish striker Njazi Kuqi is undergoing a trial period with Dutch First Division club Den Haag.

Kuqi has failed to make an impact at first team level since moving to Birmingham from FC Lahti 12 months-ago.
