Kanu departure delayed

West Brom striker Kanu has been forced to delay linking up with Nigeria for the African Nations Cup after suffering a head injury during Saturday’s FA cup clash with Reading.

The former Arsenal striker had been expected to join up with his international team-mates in time to play in today’s warm-up game against Egypt.

Baggies boss Bryan Robson is liaising with Nigerian coach Austin Eguaveon as to whether he will allow Kanu to play in Sunday’s Premiership clash at Wigan.

Robson said: “Kanu is having a check on his head after getting a knock on Saturday.

“I’m still waiting to hear from the Nigeria authorities about Kanu (and the Wigan game) but they were quite happy for him to play on Saturday.

“We’ll speak to them again but he definitely won’t join up with them today.”
