Manchester City defender David Sommeil has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association for his tackle on Tottenham’s Lee Young-Pyo at Eastlands on Wednesday.

Spurs boss Martin Jol was furious with Sommeil’s challenge, which was not spotted by referee Alan Wiley who had just blown for a foul by Michael Brown on Joey Barton which earned the former a yellow card.

The FA have now reviewed the video and decided the French defender has a case to answer.

Sommeil has been offered the option of either accepting a three-match ban immediately or having his case heard by the disciplinary commission on Tuesday and has until 6pm to make his decision.
