Unsettled Earnshaw given advice by boss

Robert Earnshaw has been handed a DVD by West Brom manager Bryan Robson highlighting what aspects of his game need to improve for him to become an established Premiership player.

Robson employed the same methods earlier in the season with Junichi Inamoto and the Japanese star took his suggestions on board and has become a key part of the Baggies side.

Earnshaw, who has had two transfer requests rejected in the past month by Robson, is a proven goalscorer and was on target 14 times in his first season with Albion.

But Robson feels other aspects of Earnshaw’s game such as his link-up play need to get better if he wants to play regular top-flight football.

Robson said: “We know that when Earnie gets chances, he is probably our best finisher but he has got to improve other aspects of his game which contribute to the team.

“Earnie has not quite grasped that yet. I need players who can grasp that and score goals to get us into a better position in the Premier League.

“We did the same with Inamoto and he has added the defensive qualities that a central midfield player needs as part of his game.

“Earnie has got a similar DVD to the one we gave ‘Ina’. It is about things like hold-up play and the timing of his runs which, for me, is what Earnie needs to add to his game to be a Premiership player.

“Like I said, we know about his goalscoring and the pace he has got to go past people but you have got to have a little bit more than that.

“If you are going through a bad patch where you are not scoring, then you need to contribute other things to the team.”

Earnshaw may want to leave The Hawthorns but Robson insisted: “We have had no enquiries for him.”
