Rangers’ out-of-favour defender Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan admits signing for the Ibrox club last summer was a “mistake“.

The 31-year-old has only made seven starts since his move from Paris St Germain and is set to depart Scotland during the transfer window.

Pierre-Fanfan was expected to form a partnership with Julien Rodriguez, who arrived for £1m (€1.4m) from Monaco at the beginning of the season.

However, when manager Alex McLeish also re-signed Greek stopper Sotirios Kyrgiakos, the French defender was, for the most part, consigned to life on the substitutes’ bench.

He told the Herald: “At first I thought I would play alongside Julien because we understand each other but, in fact, we have played together only twice.

“I have great respect for my team-mates but it looks as though signing for Rangers has been a mistake.
